And Lavateras too

_

This is a Lavatera with a very bad habit.

But it has enormous flowers in a lovely pale shade of violet-purple.
The plant is a native species to Corsica.

Marco attempts to make a cross with another Lavatera with a more desirable upright habit.

We'll have to wait till this time next year to find out the results of his efforts.

What do you get if you cross 'Razzmatazz' with 'Art's Pride'?
06-08-2004 15:59 That's exactly what Marco van Noort is trying to find out!
By Miriam Young

While 'Razzmatazz' is the first, and still only, fully double Echinacea, 'Art's Pride' has also been creating a stir with its stunning orange petals.

The two flowers actually look fantastic placed next to each other, but Marco van Noort is now on a mission to create 'Razzmatazz' in different colours.

There's a lot more to it than simply rubbing a couple of flowers together. Mother Nature provides a few clues as to when the time is right do do this, but Marco is keeping what he knows about that well and truly under his hat!

Meanwhile, a paler pink 'Razzmatazz' has already emerged in Marco's hybridising garden. A half opened flower is pictured here next to the original and 'Art's Pride'
