Commercial Production
21-01-2004 08:47 Delphinium 'Coral Sunset' is produced by Nico Wigchert at the same nursery where it was discovered.
By Miriam Young

Founded in Noordwijkerhout, Holland in 1974, Wigchert Nursery came into being because Nico Wigchert’s father wanted a change of lifestyle. Previous to this, he was operating a vegetable growing business a little further north in Santpoort, but had become fed up with the early mornings and back-breaking work necessary with those crops, and so purchased land more suited to growing flowers. As with so many businesses in the area, Wigchert Nursery was concentrating on production for the cut flower market. As time went by, the range of flowers produced became more specific, becoming exclusively Elatum type Delphiniums by 1999.

Nico entered the family business straight from school, and following his father’s retirement is now the sole owner.

Following an introduction via a supplier to a garden perennials exporter, Wigchert Nursery now produce garden Delphiniums D. ‘Wishful Thinking’, D. ‘Darwin’s Blue Indulgence’, D. ‘Darwin’s Pink Indulgence’ and of course D. ‘Coral Sunset’.
